invisible
When craftsmen would first break ground on a new cathedral, most did so knowing well they wouldn’t live long enough to see the finished work. They would shed blood, sweat, and tears as they carved stones and built archways. Their best years were given for something bigger than themselves, something that would endure to future generations. Often, they would go unnoticed, as artists crafting the small details of a masterpiece. Certainly, at times they wanted to give up, feeling pointless to work when no one noticed their efforts and impact. Thankfully they endured, and throughout the world, millions have enjoyed and been affected by the beautiful sanctuaries they created.
We believe this metaphor deeply relates to mothering. To what moms are building when no one is looking. To the birth pains, late sleepless nights, scars and stretch marks, meltdowns, balancing work/family, and feelings of isolation. A mother’s actions might feel invisible at times, seeming to go unnoticed. But, ultimately they will have a lasting impact on their children and the generations to come.
